Syen – Stand No. C42 in the Concept Centre

On show at the Syen stand at DVD 2007 will be the Syen range of HUMS components designed specifically to be an easy, low-cost, fit to new and legacy platforms. The range includes three levels of vehicle HUMS, the Syen Battery Monitoring Unit, and the Generator Monitoring Unit.

Additionally the Syen VIDI range of HUMS Data Analysis and presentation software will be on display.

Vehicle HUMS

Syen offers a range of HUMS components for vehicle fits and the choice of unit depends on the size, cost and architecture of the vehicle. The main components are: Syen VMU-28, VMU-10, and VMU-C.

The most complex unit is the Syen VMU-28 which boasts the following spec: - 28 analogue inputs - 24 digital (switch) inputs - 4 pulse/frequency inputs - 3 CAN Channels (including MilCAN & J1939) - RS232 & RS485 - Digital output - On-board 3 Axis accelerometers - On-board temperature sensing - IP67 sealed enclosure

The VMU provides unparalleled connectivity to the vehicle and its fitted components. It can link directly to engine, transmission and other ECUs, typically using J1939. It includes extensive direct sensor interfacing to augment the data available from the ECUs.

VMU acts as the main data store for the automotive components, but additionally can read and store the failure and test data from operational equipment such as weapon stations, navigation, and communications. Its interface capabilities provide access to three separate CAN buses (including MilCAN and J1939), RS232, ISO9141, and RS485. In particular, VMU can read and store data from any CAN connected sub-system, including additional VMUs.

An optional version of VMU-28 is available with the J1708 bus interface.

Syen VMU-10 has reduced I/O (only 10 analogue inputs) but provides all the functionality of VMU-28. This unit is most suitable for vehicles with the majority of data provided by ECUs but with the requirement of some analogue and digital input.

Syen VMU-C has no discrete I/O and is designed to gather automotive parameter and failure data via J1939. It includes on-board accelerometers and ambient temperature measurement and enables a very rapid HUMS fit on platforms with suitable data sources.

Other Platform HUMS and Components

As well as the main vehicle HUMS components described above, Syen manufactures a range of equipment to augment the vehicle systems and provide HUMS for other platform types.

The Consortium consists of five UK SMEs, BeCrypt, CF Cases, Ergo Computing and tms Support Solutions who are partnered with Fujitsu as the lead system integrator.

tms's head office is at Grantham, with three satellite sites at various locations within the United Kingdom; all of which comply to the ISO 9001:2000 standard held at the company's head office: this ensures that we deliver you the highest possible standards right to your fingertips.

tms is made up of four operating arms; * Publications * Training and Visual Design Services * Software Development and IT Support Services * Integrated Logistics Support (ILS)

Publications

tms provides technical documentation for both the defence and commercial sectors.  A large number of our staff are highly trained ex-service and industry personnel that will ensure your company receives the highest standard in documentation whatever the format or specification you require.  tms is experienced in all recognised technical documentation specifications for Tri-service and Commercial Systems and can cater for current and future delivery platforms.

Training and Visual Design Services

tms has extensive experience and expertise in the design, development and delivery of training courses.  We are able to undertake key design tasks such as Training Needs Analysis (TNA) to allow us to design a course specific for any of our clients' individual requirements.  Our Computer Based Training (CBT) packages, proven to reduce classroom training time by up to 20%, they are all developed using industry standard software and conforming to standards such as Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM).  The training and visual design team requirements aside from those primarily concerned with training.

Software Development and IT Support Services

tms have software developers with an extensive array of analysis and development skills.  There able to work through your existing software to create 'add-on' functionality or create a bespoke solution from your requirements. We also have a considerable resource of IT Support Engineers that can install new business networks, undertake network upgrades, carry out PC and system health checks and provide routine maintenance.

Integrated Logistics Support (ILS)

tms provides ILS which is a disciplined approach to predicting and managing Whole Life Costs (WLC).  Its aim is to optimise WLC by utilising analysis carried out early in the programme, which will sustain the equipment throughout its life.  This is achieved by influencing its design for sustainability and determining the support requirements.  The end result is equipment that is fully supported, and that remains operational at optimum cost.
